How To Properly Train Your Dog

Posted by

It may seem difficult to train a new dog. By following the tips presented here, you will be able to build a strong relationship with your dog and provide training that will help him be a better dog and you a better owner.

You can try a little bit of ingenuity if you are going with crate training for your indoor dog or puppy. If your dog does not want to go into the crate but one of his favorite toys inside and close the door. Your dog will get excited at the prospect of the treat and soon be eager to enter the crate. Once they enter the crate, be sure to praise them to show that what they did was good.

Verbal corrections must be sharp and direct. Do not drag on in a rant to your dog about how bad they are. Simply tell them no an instead steer them towards what you'd like them to do. Your tone should be stern to let them know you are serious.

Your dog needs to lead an active lifestyle. Dogs can become bored easily. Dogs with no enthusiasm will be harder to train than active dogs. Your dogs will obey more quickly if you keep them well exercised. It is a great idea to take your dog out on runs or walks through the neighborhood.

Stay with the training, so that he doesn't forget the lessons that he learned. Keep him in practice. A lot of times owners thing training is a one time event. But dogs can become complacent just like their human counterparts. Make sure your dog has a regular routine.

It is very easy to teach a pooch to roll over as long as you have some tasty treats on hand. First, make sure the dog is in a laying position. Next, you must hold one treat close to the floor off to one side of their head and slowly bring it up and over the dog's head to the opposite side. His nose will follow the treat, naturally making him roll over. As he is rolling over, give the "roll over" command, and do this repeatedly until he can roll over with just the command and without the treat. Be patient while he masters this trick. He will be a star once he does!

Make sure your dog understand he does not need to respond to the word "no". You must find positive methods to reinforce your commands when training a dog. Saying 'no' is not a good command, and the dog won't know how to react. Tailor dog training to suit the dog and the situation.

Silence your dog's excessive barking by teaching them a silencing command. As the dog begins barking, display a treat and then repeat your order until the barking ceases. When your dog quits barking, offer him the treat. In time, your dog will learn to be quiet if he wants a treat.

Once a person has figured out how to bring out the dogs abilities to learn and be trained, it is simply a matter of practicing those techniques. The dog enjoys pleasing its owner in the same way the owner enjoys seeing the dog respond to the training they're administering.
